Perro Sin Pelo Del Peru

My heart is the heart of the Condor
My eyes are the eyes of the eagle
My blood is the blood of the ancient races
My swiftness is the swiftness of the hummingbird
Do not doubt my lineage as it is the history of my race
My kind were here before the Chimú
We saw the rise and the fall of the mighty Inca
We witnessed the savagery of the Conquistadors
We survived, We are Peru!

The Peruvian Hairless Dog is a breed that goes back at least 3,000 in Peru.
They are a Sight hound with a well developed hunting instinct,
Ancient Peruvians used them to catch small game and to destroy the rat population in the grain houses.
The dog comes in two varieties. Hairless and Coated.
We are of the opinion that the Coated is needed in the breeding programme to keep the breed healthy,
however at this stage we are unable to use the coated in any breeding programme

The breed also comes in three sizes.
Small from 25 to 40 cm (9 ¾ to 15 ¾ inches)
Medium from 40 to 50 cm (15 ¾ to 19 ¾ inches)
Large from 50 to 65 cm (19 ¾ to 25 ¾ inche
Small from 4 to 8 kg (8.8 to 17.6 lbs)
Medium from 8 to 12 kg (17.6 to 26.4 lbs)
Large from 12 to 25 kg (26.4 to 55.1 lbs)
Members of the Peruvian Inca Orchid Enthusiasts Club, Inc. (PIOEC) have dedicated themselves to preserving and promoting the purebred Peruvian Inca Orchid (aka PIO, Perro sin Pelo del Peru, PSPP, Viringo, Peruvian Hairless, Peruvian Hound) and providing educational information and support for purebred and mix-breed owners and the public at large.
The PIOEC would like to see hairless and coated individuals and all sizes of PIOs (toy, small, medium, and large) recognized internationally. While the PIOEC is based in the United States, we have active international membership and strongly encourage more to join us. If this is the breed you love or just want to learn more about ... this group is for you!
