Chinese Crested and Peruvians are often perceived to be "weird" by the general public however, the gene that created 'Naked Apes" (Us) also created other Hairless animals. Dogs, Cats, Elephants, Rhinos, Pigs, Rats, Guinea Pigs and probably more that I don't know about. The best thing about these "Strange" dogs is the love and devotion they provide to their owners. They are also excellent Alert dogs, with several working in Paws for Diabetes and also providing a living huggable animal for people with severe allergies to dog fur.
Chinese crested have hair on their heads not fur and the naked bodies reduce the amount of allergens that can set off Asthma. Dust and other problem causing allergens can be easily washed off each day.
The Peruvian fulfills an area where the allergic person can have a large dog without the side issues of fur, dust etc.
So the next time you see these amazing dogs, don't brush them off as being ugly or weird, they have a great devotion to us and provide us with love that isn't obtainable for some people from more normal dogs.
There are also lots of untrue myths about the hairless breeds as well. Many will tell you that the puffs are born to keep the hairless warm. This is utter poppycock. The puff are born because they do not carry the hairless gene and therefore show a coat. Simple really! People also say that they can undo zips, and more amazing things. I find they will investigate open bags, boxes and remove tissues to rip up. Pots are taken to with gusto and being slightly obsessive about things they will clean it spotlessly. :)
They can be very possessive over toys and their favourite objects, you included. Sharing isn't in their vocabulary and this is something they need to be taught to prevent fighting. On the other hand, if the toy is broken, you can have it.
